The peach tree (Prunus persica) is a fruit species native to temperate climates that requires a chill during its hibernal period to overcome dormancy. However, due to genetic breeding, varieties are currently grown in subtropical and tropical regions where there are low occurrences of chill during this phenological stage. This study evaluated the adaptability and stability of the reproductive and vegetative phases of peach tree cultivars in a subtropical climate. An experiment was designed in randomized blocks with split time plots, with 23 peach tree cultivars and four replications, with each replication consisting of one plant and four shoots. The years of evaluated (plots) and the cultivars (subplots) were considered to be treatments. The relative rates... |

Blackberries are an important option for the diversification of fruit crops. However, there is currently no literature regarding plant cultivation in high-altitude tropical climates. Knowledge of the phenolic composition of blackberries is essential because variations in the levels of these components may exist between cultivars and may depend on environmental conditions. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to evaluate the total phenol content of different blackberry cultivars (Arapaho, Brazos, Cainguangue, Cherokee, Choctaw, Comanche, Ébano, Guarani, Tupy and Xavante). Free radical scavenging activity in these cultivars was assayed using a DPPH test. The HPLC-UV chromatogram of blackberry fruit extracts at 280 nm revealed the presence... |

Although Brazil is the largest fig (Ficus carica L.) producer in the Southern Hemisphere, it mainly uses only one cultivar, ‘Roxo de Valinhos’. In addition, propagation is almost entirely through hardwood cuttings. Therefore, the aim of this study was to establish a propagation method that provides more successful rooting of stem segments of fig cultivars for the purpose of expanding the genetic base of the fig tree. The cultivars used were ‘Brunswick’, ‘Calabacita’, ‘Negro de Bursa’, ‘Mini Figo’, ‘Lampa Preta’, ‘Lemon’, ‘Troiano’,’ Nazaré’, ‘Três num Prato’, ‘Princesa’, ‘Colo de Dama’, ‘Montes’, ‘Bêbera Branca’, ‘Pingo de Mel’, and ‘Roxo de Valinhos’. The propagation methods used were layering, hardwood cuttings, nodal segments, herbaceous cuttings... |

A protocol of quince seedlings production was developed by grafted in the ‘Japonês’ rootstock in the winter (July). As the extraction of the seeds of the ‘Japonês’ is in May and it is demanded nine months to produce the rootstock, there is need to study techniques of seeds conservation to facilitate the seedlings production in the nursery. The present work has the objective to study the viability of the seeds conservation and cryoconservation of ‘Japonês’ quince rootstock. A part of the seeds was sowed immediately and the remaining had the humidity lowered for 14.14%. Part was stratification for 20 days in refrigerator in Petri plates, another part was stored by 3, 6, 9 or 12 months inside of plastic tubes, under 20, 5 ord -12 ºC and the remaining seeds... |

The objective of this study was to evaluate the production of seedlings of Physalis L. species under different-colored shade nets. Four shade nets individually stained white, blue, red and black, all with 50% shading, were used in this study, and an additional treatment (control) was used in which seedlings were grown in full sun. The study examined four species of Physalis, namely, P. peruviana, P. pubescens, P. minima and P. ixocarpa. The experiment followed a randomized block design with three blocks and 25 seeds per plot. The species were sown in styrofoam trays. Germination was monitored daily to calculate the Emergency Velocity Index (EVI) and stabilize the overall percentage of emergence. Height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area index and... |

Brazil is one of the largest importers of olive (Olea europaea L.) products, being the fourth largest importer of olive oil and the fifth of olives. In recent decades the introduction and growing of olive cultivars less chilling requirement in the South and Southeast made viable the olives production in the country. On the other hand, there are still shortages of information about the management of this crop in our country, especially in relation to studies about the nutritional needs of the olive tree, grown in subtropical regions, and it may enable advances in productivity of this fruit. The aim of study was to evaluate the growth, dry matter production and nutritional status of the olive tree under the effect of the omission of nutrients as well as... |
